Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Identify the effects and symptoms associated with workplace health and hygiene
  2. Identify and monitor health and hygiene standards and systems
  3. Implement and monitor health and hygiene protection measures for individuals
  4. Identify, implement and monitor control measures for operational health and hygiene hazards
  5. Audit and review systems in respect of health and hygiene measures

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

demonstrates completion of the implementation and monitoring of health and hygiene management systems that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identifying, communicating, and clarifying job roles and responsibilities to others

monitoring of activity for those involved in applying health and hygiene management systems

consistently and successfully implements and monitors health and hygiene management systems

accesses, interprets and applies technical information

using a range of communication techniques to share ideas and information

planning and organising activities that maintain or improve health and hygiene systems

preparing and documenting systems and procedures for health and hygiene systems

apply risk management processes and techniques

conducting enquiries / investigations and prepare written reports

accessing, evaluating and applying data from monitoring systems and equipment / plant

validating training analysis results

applying review and audit processes and techniques


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of implementing and monitoring health and hygiene management systems through:

relevant legislative and Industry health and hygiene standards and compliance requirements

control measure for health and hygiene

establishing health and hygiene objectives and criteria

health and hygiene management systems information procedures

risk management and control theory and processes

causes, symptoms and impacts of stress on employees

potential impacts of drug and substance abuse

chemical information management systems (SDS or equivalent)

health hazards and controls associated with mining processes and the likely impacts on personnel

health hazards and controls associated with exposure to heat / cold conditions

health hazards associated with:

explosives

radiation and radiation sources

equipment and plant

lighting

vibration

noise

health and hygiene training requirements and systems
